Top Beginner Boats in 2023
You claim to have fallen in love with boating and have researched how you can buy a boat. Now you are looking for beginner boats. You're on the right track to a great adventure. Before you can start, you need to find the right boat for you and your family. Also, make sure you have a budget in mind. Boat Trader is a boat broker, so we have analyzed all options and come up with three great choices for beginner boats that are extremely affordable in 2023.
Bayliner Element M15
Bayliner's smallest deckboat is the Element M15. It can comfortably accommodate five people and has surprising amounts of space. The forward section of the boat has a U-shaped seating area and stowage areas beneath. Gunwales can be bolstered to provide backrests and cup holders are easily accessible. Grab rails and grab rails are also available.
A base package that includes a trailer starts at $16,980. This is significantly lower than the average American household's monthly cable bill. The M15 is affordable to purchase and easy to operate, thanks to its standard 40-hp Mercury Marine engine (which can be upgraded up to 50 horses), as well as a 12-gallon fuel container. The M15 is easy to maintain, as there aren’t many complicated wiring or hydraulics to worry about. This package is garage-ready and can be easily parked at your home with its 17'5" storage space.
Mako Pro Skiff 13 CC
There have been many models in the Mako Pro Skiff range over the years, but the popular 17 CC was finally reduced to the best-selling boat. It is one of the Best Fishing Skiffs of 2022. Today, the Pro Skiff 13CC is added to the existing line. Although it is small, it is a fully-fledged saltwater center console fish boat. It comes equipped with a 25-hp Mercury Outboard and a trailer for a base MSRP $17,995. You can increase the price by $1,300 to trade that 25-horse powerplant with 40 horses. This will bring you speeds of 20 mph up to the 30 mph mark.
The 13 CC is small and light, but it has a lot of features. It has a fore and an aft casting deck with stowage below, a console storage compartment, cup holders and full navigational lights. The boat can be sailed in just eight inches of water, making it ideal for light-tackle anglers.
The Pro Skiff line includes all boats with Mako's "Advanced Inverted V hull design. The hull features a narrow tunnel-like area in its middle that helps to smoothen the chop and greatly improves static stability.
Sea Doo Switch
The Switch was a top choice for beginners, as it has a starting MSRP just $21,799 and comes with a trailer. There are a variety of models available for the Switch, including the 13' Compact, an 18', 21' or 212 Sport model (27,399), which is specifically designed for watersports and the 18' or 212 Cruise (31,399), which maximizes comfort aboard.
The Switch is a tri-toon pontoonboat constructed from Sea Doo’s Polytec material, which is similar to rotomolded plasticethylene and also used in the construction of their Spark PWC. The Switch also features handlebars instead of a wheel at its helm, just like their PWCs. As an option, the iBR (intelligent brake-reverse) system is also included. This boat can be compared to a pontoon boat and operated as a personal watercraft.
The modular decking system is a standout feature of the Switch. The deck is constructed of interlocking tiles and receiver mounts that can be used for everything from furniture to coolers or stowage containers. This makes it possible to customize the whole boat at your convenience, without any tools.
BONUS BOAT
The Brunswick Boat Group recently announced the all-new Veer X13. Keep an eye out for it. It is not yet available for sale but will be available in 2023, according to this publication. The boat is a rotomolded two-person boat that can be equipped with a Mercury's Avator gasoline outboard , or a Mercury's Avator rotomolded motor to 9.9-hp. It will list with power and a trailer starting at $11,995.
