Tips for Surfing Behind A Jet Boat

Jet boats are getting increasingly popular each day and we're getting calls on how to put them up for browsing.

The question we always get is: “Will your SWELL Wakesurf Creator work on my jet boat?”

There are a Couple of items to consider to answer this query:

Can it fit? That you want to ensure you've got the space to attach this, and that the place is free of decals and is level. Our 2.0 is always the best choice if you can get it to fit, The space it requires is 5" high x 13" long and it's recommend to attach it under the waterline when fully loaded. It will work if drop in and will do what is intended.

How much ballast do you have or want to put into your ship? The biggest problem with jet boats is that the jet, once we attach a SWELL Wakesurf Creator™ to both sides of the jet boat, since it does on any boat, it moves the surf wave nearer to the center of the boat. The issue is that the jet is in shoots and the heart right at where you are surfing, you are able to surf, but most people find this check out this movie:

Do you have a twin motor? Twin engine jet ships can work better with the SWELL wakesurf creator if you can control them individually. You can get up to speed, and throttle the surf side jet back from shooting the surf wave to prevent it.

How much ballast is necessary? Today's surf boats have 2000-2500 lbs of ballast stock, there isn't any striking differences to the hulls of the majority of these boats than there was 10 years ago, the significant distinction is the ballast. Wake surfing is all about displacement, the greater the ship is in the water, the larger the wave. I recommend people with jet boats start with AT LEAST 1200 lbs of ballast (keep in mind the bigger the ship, the further ballast you need to sink the hull) and I advise that you place it as far back as you can.

While this is a more expensive alternative, it is an excellent choice to prevent a few of the issues we talked about above. This does not, however, eliminate the need for ballast! Surfing foremost and 1st requires ballast, the more the merrier!
