Scarab 255 Open - A New Generation of Jet Boat

Scarab 255 Open image

If you still think the jet boat is only a beach toy to do donuts and tow a wake boarder, the Scarab 255 Open will surprise you. Breaking the codes of the kind of boat, it offers a much larger program.

Until now, the jet boat had the picture of a sports boat designed to have fun close to the shore, but with a restricted schedule. Considering that Scarab has refocused on jet propulsion, the brand continues to evolve the concept by offering household ships, more luxurious and now actually more versatile with this particular model. The appearance is contemporary and sporty, especially in "ID" model but it retains a certain sophistication.

As an Open edition of this "classic" 255 which it borrows the hull out of, this model provides a completely different design. As the name implies, it is an open boat, organized around a big central console but we still have sufficient room to circulate at the boat. The front section has a friendly room with interlocking chests which you could place cushions on and a central table. The whole can even be turned into a very good sized solarium. A complementary seat is also integrated on the front of the console, just above a small storage container. Additionally, the whole front of this console opens to provide access to a large storage space. There is sufficient space for the equipment or even to adapt a w.c.

The back also offers great modularity because the engine compartment receives a solarium with a detachable backrest to add a seat. This boat doesn't really have a transom, but a huge board which you can unfold entirely to form a beautiful swim platform, perfect for swimming, fishing or water sports. However, the flip side, the high free-board border (31") provides a good level of security and handrails placed everywhere can be easily held.

In the middle of the ship, the console is rather large and almost "fishing" type with a gorgeous dashboard at the very top and, on both sides, a storage area plus a place to slip a smartphone, is quite wise. Everything is efficiently protected by a wonderful windshield. The only regret is that there's no closed glove box.

The pilot bench has three parts with folding seats for improved flexibility in addition to a good lateral support to shoot "G" turns. If the driving position remains amazing, we regret the absence of a pillow for those knees, very beneficial in bad weather. A good option which you can afford is the beautiful T-Top that brings shade and provides a bit of style to a boat.

Excellent Versatility

To propel this jet boat, you will find two Rotax engines of 150 hp. Produced by BRP, these motors are famous for their dynamism and in the Scarab, they do not disappoint. The first good surprise is the sound level, which can be very contained and makes the cruise pleasant. The other excellent surprise comes obviously by pushing the throttle. Very reactive, the ship planes in less than 3 seconds and reaches up to 25 mph in only 7 seconds. Don't be surprised when you see the tachometer needle spinning. The Rotax need turns to express themselves and also to find the maximum speed. You need to scale up to 8000 rpm. From there, when we move over 5000 rpm, the boat is so " full of life" with a cruising speed of around 32 mph and a maximum speed over 54 mph. It is fairly great for this type of boat.

Additionally, unlike the older generation of jet boats, the Scarab's hull is very efficient and safe. Stable and balanced, it also keeps the management absolutely (it was the default of most of the jet boats) and the boat is even comfortable in choppy conditions. Same behavior in curve at which the boat does not slide but provides a traction worthy of a fishing boat. Well protected by its high bow and its own deep cockpit, the Scarab permits for some offshore fishing excursions.

Regarding the gear, the 255 Open is not miserly as it suggests a cooler, two USB ports, a stereo system, navigation lights and front swim ladder. The boat can also be offered in two variations "G" and " ID," with better equipment and more options you have the freedom to personalize your boat.

Editor's Notice
