Scarab 215 HO Impulse Review
The beetle was revered in ancient Egypt as a symbol of the eternal cycle of life. Its image decorated architecture and was carved into amulets. It was correlated with mysterious power, and the power of the pharaohs.
The symbol is also connected in the world of boats -- the Rotax jet power which propels Scarab runabouts to speeds with electricity.
There are three model sizes in the Scarab lineup -- the 215, the 195, and the 165 -- however they can be tricked out in various configurations. At the top of the heap in terms of both tricks and power is the 215 HO Impulse. HO stands for High Output, and that output is achieved by the double (yes, twin) 250-hp Bombardier Rotax motors from the stern.
The 21-footer to speeds over 60 mph is pushed by those 500 horses, together with the two nozzles providing steering controller. Besides the power addend (the other 215 versions carry double 150s or twin 200s) the Impulse comes with a fold-down wakeboard tower along with bimini, cruise-control, color and graphics options, and provisions for an optional ballast method for producing creature awakens. Another option is a Digital Ride Management system with Docking ECO, and Cruise manners. With no choices the MSRP pricing begins at $57,010.
There's seating for 10 people -- which you can call comfy chairs for six bolsters, and armrests to make lounging nirvana both forward and aft.
Jet power means shallow draft -- just 12" in this circumstance, making Scarabs good candidates for rivers and lakes with shallows at the edges, and for easier ramp-launching. A custom trailer for the ship is available from Scarab.
