Jet Ski Shopping Considerations
Are you looking for summer thrills on water? A boat is a great way to have fun on the water. Buying and owning a Personal watercraft (PWC) is the best way to get them. PWC have become increasingly popular since their introduction in the second half of the 20th century. It is important to consider how your PWC will be stored, transported, insured, maintained, accessed, and transported.
Storage
It is important to think about where your PWC will be stored when it is not being used. For example, if you live in an apartment you won't have a lot of space so you will need to rent storage units and add the monthly cost. To protect your PWC from theft, weather damage and pest infestations, it's a good idea for it to be stored indoors.
If you live on property with waterfront access, you may be able to install a docking station that allows you to instantly launch your watercraft from wherever you are. However, this is an additional cost.
Insurance
Florida law does not require you to have insurance for your personal watercraft. You should still have personal watercraft insurance. Insurance can help cover the costs of medical treatment and damage to your PWC and other watercraft if you are involved in an accident with your PWC. Some policies also cover injuries caused by PWC or other insured boats.
Maintenance
Personal watercraft must be maintained just like any other motorized vehicle, on land or at sea. You can do a lot to maintain your personal watercraft, such as washing it after each ride. However, you will need to have it professionally checked once or twice per year by a qualified mechanic who is familiar with how to properly tune it.
Accessory
You can outfit your PWC with many accessories to make your ride more enjoyable. If you are interested in these accessories, don't forget to consider the cost. You can choose optional features from the manufacturer to enhance your PWC. However, this will increase the price.
Transport
You'll also need to consider how you will transport your PWC from the storage area to the water. To make it easy, most people buy a separate boat trailer that they can load their PWC on. These trailers are made to roll into the water to allow you to safely launch your vehicle.
